Big R saves Jefferson County approximately $300,000 with value engineering proposal

When the Clear Creek bike trail project, in Golden Colorado, came in over budget, Big R Manufacturing was asked by contractor Concrete Express to submit a Value Engineering proposal for the 356ft long pedestrian bridge. The Original design was for a 4 span precast bridge, with 3 sets of piers.
Big R's proposal included the design and supply of a two span prefabricated box truss pedestrian bridge. By eliminating two piers and weeks of site construction and lane closures, it was estimated that the prefabricated pedestrian bridge alternate saved the owner approximately $300,000 over the initial concrete design.
