Big R Bridge Receives National Award

At the 2007 World Steel Symposium, Big R received the National Steel Bridge Alliance Prize Bridge Award for a 470ft long by 44ft wide steel bridge constructed on Hwy 36 in Watkins, Colorado. This National Award for the short span category to honor significant and innovative steel bridges constructed within the U.S.

The innovative six span steel bridge crossing Box Elder Creek showcased the viability of using standard rolled beam sections as a competitive alternate to Precast concrete. The simple-span-made-continuous technique, was used with a innovative continuity detail providing an especially economical, low-maintenance, and visually appealing bridge.
